Stupid is as stupid does: Florida bans mobile communications

Once again Florida has shown itself to be the Forrest Gump of legislatures. Except of course that Forrest was actually possessed of a deeper wisdom.

Wring (hands) immediately and rinse out later

'It was hostile and illegal activity, by
the US, directed against the EU'
Former taoiseach John Bruton's castigation of Washington in The Irish Times over alleged spying on the European Union is, on the face of it, surprising but also an admission about political news management.

Bruton is the EU's former ambassador to the US and chair of the Financial Services Body at the IFSC - an organisation which represents the interests of many of the US's biggest finance houses, so it may appear surprising that he would take such a strong line.

During the Iraq War, we were constantly told by the FF-led government that a failure to co-operate with the Washington would offend US corporations and lead to lower levels of Foreign Direct Investment from that quarter.

Referendum on banker baddies? Make it a double

Former DPP warns against early banking inquiry ahead of potential criminal trials - RTÉ News
Former DPP James Hamilton is by no means an apparatchik. When he says trials must take place before the banker baddies can come before an Oireachtas inquiry because a jury would be prejudiced by the coverage of TDs and Senators reacting to testimony brought before them, he must be taken seriously.

Size matters – more now than ever before

It is fast-approaching crunch time in the debate over what size is the right size for a mobile device to be small but perfectly formed.

That is because an explosion in MCommerce will take place over the next 18 months or so, according to research by Morgan Stanley. This  will require mobile devices to be big enough and powerful enough to function as a PC.

They will also need to run complex software and display High Definition images, but some sections of the industry suggest these devices will also need to be versatile enough to be a convenient-sized mobile phone.

The ‘M’ in MCommerce does not stand for ‘Me’

Online shopping graphic
More people have mobile phones in the world than toothbrushes, which is a measure of the opportunity presented by MCommerce and welcome considering all those folk with potty breath out there I’d rather not meet in person.

One should always be careful about assuming personal experience is reflective of general behaviour but it is likely that my MCommerce activity reflects general consumer trends among those with smartphones.
